Abstract
In recent decades, there has been an increase in brownfields, which are underused sites previously developed. This trend is largely due to the preference for urban expansion into new areas rather than redeveloping existing sites. Nevertheless, restoring and rejuvenating brownfields bring significant benefits to communities, although the process requires considerable effort. A major challenge in brownfield remediation is identifying and prioritizing sites for revitalization. With the assistance of the Environmental Protection Agency efficiently identifying brownfields streamlines the remediation process thus enabling targeted approaches. In an effort to understand what determines a successful remediation, brownfield remediation success stories were evaluated from all over the United States to figure out when are brownfield redevelopment projects most effective.
