Abstract
The odd thing though is that for a time, people's strengths and weaknesses were not necessarily utilized to the best of their abilities, but rather, with exploitation in mind. When I am asked dismissively about my major, it makes me think that I should be using my skills elsewhere; however, these people do not know me, and I believe I know my interests better than anyone else. In the wake of the 20th century, the notions of work brought considerable attention to the conditions of children exposed to dangerous working practices and the lack of responsibility placed on companies exploiting their work. This historical topic explores what happens when people are told what to do, rather than do something because they love it. Furthermore, because children are involved, such a vulnerable population will not be able to defend their cause, or lack thereof. Loss of life was common, as these children faced hazardous machines, risk of injury, over exhaustion, and desperation. But through the efforts of activists calling for accountability and the protection of children, the United States established definitive labor laws aimed to defend children from exploitation and offer them legal safety for a normal life
