Abstract
In the Name of the Father is an emotional journey between a father and daughter. Rain Flores, 22, has a father who has struggled with addiction for her entire life. After the death of her mother when she was 12, her father has been her burden to bear. Just when Rain was entering her senior year of college, she gets a call from her hometown in Saugerties, New York, that her father has overdosed again. She must immediately leave her school three hours away and make a midnight journey to everything she thought she left behind. Through the story, Rain desperately tries to help a man who doesn't want to be saved. She struggles with her own feelings of self worth, guilt, anger, and grief of a childhood and adolescence she's lost. She also realizes that she can't face everything on her own, and tries her best to change that. Rain must decide between herself and her familial obligation after yet another hurdle is thrown her way.
